The 2009 contest was a great success and now it's gone provincial!
All backyard and amateur wildlife photographers are invited to submit their best photos of BC wildlife from June 1st to August 31st 2010. There are great prizes and winners will be featured in the BC SPCA's magazine AnimalSense!.
Thanks to everyone for such a fantastic Open House!
There were more than 950 visitors including many young families - it was fantastic to see all those young faces! Many guests commented that they were amazed by the sophistication of the centre, the incredible volunteer program and were generally impressed by how many animals are cared for without government funding. The generosity of the public was incredible - Wild ARC raised $6000 from merchandise sales, animal sponsorships and general donations! There was also approximately $2000 in physical items donated including everything from baby food and pablum to bleach, laundry soap and office supplies.
From all the staff and volunteers and on behalf of all the wild patients, a sincere thank you for your support! See you next year!
Finally our winners can be seen online! Our first urban wildlife photography contest in summer 2009 was a great success. We congratulate the winners and thank all participants! Stay tuned for details on the 2010 contest...

Great prizes and great fun benefiting wild animals in need!
The 2009 volunteer recruitment season is underway in anticipation of a busy baby season! Wild ARC cared for 1,864 patients in 2008 - so another busy year will soon be upon us!
Volunteer orientation sessions are a great non-commital way to learn about the volunteer program and how you might get involved at the centre, in the community or from home. Orientation sessions take place at Wild ARC and further animal care training for volunteers committing to in-centre participation will follow. See here for more info and upcoming dates.
Over 100 volunteers are needed to operate Wild ARC each week during our peak animal care season from April - October, although some volunteers participate year-round. Animal Care Volunteers (min 19+ years) commit to a 4 hour shift weekly providing husbandry to hundreds of wildlife in need as well as doing laundry, dishes, and cage cleaning. Working with animals is dirty, smelly, physical and sometimes difficult - but the most rewarding experience you'll have!
We also have 2 hour/week opportunities for IN-CENTRE VOLUNTEERS to support Animal Care by participating in non-animal activities essential to operations such as diet preparation, cleaning, organizing, and laundry, and also environmental enrichment! These roles are critical to the health of our animals and may appeal to those who want to make a difference for wildlife with a more flexible but still very important commitment.
Please complete and submit Volunteer Application Form or email info@wildarc.com to join an upcoming orientation session to find out more!
